How Does Your Business Solve the Problem of Your Client or Customer?
Hey, everyone. Hope you’re doing great today. Hey, my audio might be off a little bit. I’m rolling down the road on my track, so forgive me if it doesn’t sound so good, but I wanted to talk to you today about an avatar for your business, and how do you get clear, how do you market and how are you efficient with getting your message out for your company? I think that it really comes down to being very clear about the problem that you solve. Solve one problem really well. So if you are just starting your company, or you feel like you’re spread out all over the place and you do a bunch of different things, start specializing. When you start offering a product or service that is very specialized and you decide that you are not going to go outside of that realm and do any other work, you will start to attract that work and you’re going to start seeing people come to you and pay more money because you specialize.
Niche Down on Your Product or Service You Provide
It makes your marketing so much easier, because now I know that I’m going to be marketing to people who are looking for this product. I can then craft my message. I can determine who my avatar is. Who’s going to buy this product? How old are they? How many kids have they got? Where do they live? What’s their income? You’re able to tailor everything to go towards this one product or service that you’re offering. It’s very powerful. I mean, you are able to get a lot more done money-wise, time-wise, a lot less resources going out that are expended in another direction.
Why You Want to Niche Down on One Service or Product
There’s a really good example of this that I got from Trevor Mauch. He has the Carrot Cast and owns carrot.com. You can check out his company. But he had a training that he did. It was an end-of-the-year training. I think it was last year, 2020. And he talks about how there’s a circle, and it’s just a round circle and you have lines coming off of it, and the lines are, say, let’s call them an inch long and you have 15-20 coming off of this circle, that all represents your energy that you’re giving towards certain things that you’re doing in your life. It could be in your business or your personal life, but let’s just keep it in business right now. You’re focusing on all those 15 things and you look at and go okay well, I get about an inch of that. Each year, each one moves about an inch.
But if you look at when you actually focus and you go after one thing, that same line is 15 inches long in one direction, and you just really accelerate the growth and the speed and how you are able to excel in that one thing in your life. It’s really powerful to look at it that way, and if you can really dial in your focus on who you’re serving in your business, in your personal life as well, but in your business, marketing-wise, you’re able to talk to them, and then you’re able to really craft everything to allow your business to grow in that path.
The One Thing Book
So there’s a book that’s called The One Thing. It’s written by Jay Papasan and Gary Keller, and that book is really awesome. It’s had a big impact on my life. It talks about looking at your life and going, “What is the one thing that I can do that will make everything easier or unnecessary?” And you look at that and then you break it all the way down to, “What is the smallest thing I can do tomorrow that will allow me to make that happen?” And they talk about it in the way of, that’s your first domino. You knock that domino over, and that domino continues to knock everything else over. I mean, this can be as simple as, “I have to go to sleep earlier tonight in order for me to start accomplishing the goal that I have in order to get to that big goal that I want.” I mean, it can be so small, but what is that first step that’s keeping me from getting there? So a super good book. If you want to read a great book, you can get it on an Audible, or you can get it, obviously, paperback, probably from Amazon or somewhere else. But The One Thing is a great book.
Get Clear on the Problem Your Business Solves
But yeah, get clear on what you serve your customers with, what problem you’re solving. Then figure out who that avatar is, name that person, and then make all your decisions on your marketing based upon who that person is, and go after them and serve them and you will see really, really big growth in your business.
